In 2010, the Kings River Conservancy, with the support of its partners, opened the Thorburn River Access Park. The park provides safe and legal public access to the river for kayaking and catch and release fishing. Located at Highway 180 and Rio Vista Road in Sanger, visitors also have access to picnic areas and restroom facilities.

Thorburn River Access Park is only the first of several planned for the Lower Kings River. The Thorburn River Access Park was made possible by the generosity of the Thorburn family and the cooperation and support of Fresno County Parks, California Wildlife Conservation Board, and California Department of Boating and Waterways.
